Programming & Curation

February - September 2023

Along with Olivia Bellas and Paige Jarrett, I co-designed and delivered 14 events as part of the Greater London Authority’s Community Engagement programme “Future of Participation”. The programme explored engagement approaches which enable communities to be at the heart of decision-making. It brought together community activists, social action heroes, artists, radical voices, academics, researchers, policy makers, educators…all those who are leading the way in transforming what decision-making and participation of the future will look like. Some highlights included:

  • “How do we go beyond the tick box exercises on participatory research and evaluation?” which included presentations from Chicago Beyond on their toolkit ‘Why am I always being researched’, insight into the work of  Dr Xia Lin who is the founder of Participatory Action Research at Toynbee Hall an organisation which works alongside people facing poverty and injustice in East London and Tammy Mudge, who is L'nu from Glooscap First Nation and a member of the Mi'kmaq Nation. She is the Manager of Learning and Evaluation at Every One Every Day Kjipuktuk-Halifax, and a part-time faculty member at Acadia University, where she teaches Decolonizing Community Development.

  • The Queer Muslim Project and a Disability led campaign organisation giving practical advice on how policymakers can tap into communities that are built online.

  • BME Volunteers leading a Walk & Talk around Glyndon discussing the lack of accessible green spaces for Black disabled communities
